Important Information on how to Link National Identification Number (NIN) to SIM Card
After the announcement by the federal government that they will start blocking sim cards that have not linked their national Identification number, citizens have been advised to retrieve their NIN through USSD or online and then link it to their SIM.
A lot of people do not know either how to retrieve their NIN or how to link it, that’s why we gave out the first tutorial on how to retrieve your national identification number using your phone or by visiting the NIMC Registration Portal.
All the networks has specified a detailed guide on how to link the NIMC details to your SIM card to avoid getting blocked after the given period.

Before now, NCC gave till 30 December for telecommunication operators to block all customers that have not linked their NIN to their SIM Cards. The deadline has now been extended to 29th January, 2021 to allow everyone to get involved.

How to Link NIN to MTN Line (SIM Card)
You can link your national identiufcation number to your MTN Sim card using ussd code or online. To link using USSD code, dial *785# and follow the command prompt or visit https://mtnonline.com/nin/ to complete the linking.
How to Link NIN to Airtel Line (SIM Card)
Airtel users can link their NIN to their phone by dialing *121*1# or www.airtel.com.ng/nin and following the command prompt.

Click on the green space written ‘verify and link your NIN now’
Enter your mobile number and fill di requirements.
Note that the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy has order all network providers to cancel the N20 charge on retrieval of NIN with immediate effect. Nigerians can now retrieve their NIN without charge (free).
